When you’ve figured out who you want to be, you may decide how to become the most desirable version of yourself. Begin with the end in mind – your ideal self – and work backwards.

1. Discard limiting beliefs

You already know who you are, but do you know who you might become? Limiting ideas hold most of us back, which are false assumptions about our inherent nature. You may move forward and discover who you are by learning to recognize and let go of any limiting ideas preventing you from achieving your full potential.

2. Make your “shoulds” mandatory

It would help if you lived without regrets to be the best version of yourself. You must step outside of your comfort zone, take chances, and fail – yes, fail –to rise again and succeed. Start doing instead of telling yourself what you “should” do. Use the “rocking chair test,” as Tony refers to it. Imagine yourself in your eighties, greying and reflecting on your life. What are your most outstanding achievements? What is your greatest regret? Your “musts” will be revealed.

3. Expand on your successes

Focus on your strengths, and you’ll improve in those areas while also becoming more fully yourself. When you run against hurdles, and you will, focusing on your strengths is equally critical. You recall what you bring to the table when you enhance your abilities, and you’ll demolish the barriers in your way.

4. Form a growth attitude

Nobody is built entirely of strengths. You must address your pain points to be the best possible version of yourself. Successful people approach this with a growth mindset. They don’t believe any flaws exist. Rather than focusing on what they are doing wrong, they focus on how they may improve – and make efforts to do so. There are only improvements to be made.

5. Delete expectations

Our beliefs create our world, but our thoughts are not always our own. Like most of us, you have constructed at least part of your identity on the expectations of others. Nobody else’s image of who you want to be can be yours. Internalizing other people’s values was an unconscious process, and bringing it to consciousness is the basis of learning how to be your best self.

6. Be ready to let go of your old identity

Due to feelings of uneasiness and fear of the unknown, your “old self” will resist. Embrace a can-do mentality instead of clinging to the familiar – the identity that’s been holding you back. When you decide to find your ideal self, you effectively set a higher standard for yourself and everyone around you.

7. Control your anxiety

Fear is a cunning foe who saps our courage and diverts our attention away from the present moment. It is possible and necessary to overcome your fears to better yourself. When you’re feeling worried, write down what you’re afraid of. Then, while being realistic, write down a less terrifying alternate explanation. Even if your emotions do not change right away, your mind will register the logic. Fact-checking your fears become second nature with experience, and you become less swayed by stress.

8. Prioritize the outcomes

Set a goal for your ideal self. Make a simple and attainable goal, such as getting organized or reading more fiction. You won’t acquire heaps of information since learning how to be the best version of yourself demands searching inward for insight. One of the most effective methods to get out of your head and create confidence is to set a quantifiable objective.

9. Form inspiring rituals

No one can deny that the world’s most successful athletes, entrepreneurs, and leaders have evolved into their best selves. They all have one common factor: they’ve created habits that have helped them become great. This could include meditation, priming, or goal visualization to help them feel more empowered. It always consists of a balanced diet and regular exercise. And more often than not, it entails daily appreciation exercises.

10. Be compassionate with yourself

It is about you being the best version of yourself, not other people. Stop comparing yourself to others and accept that everyone is on their journey. Have compassion for yourself if you’re not where you want to be. You’ve come to a crossroads, which is good practice for self-love instead of surfing social media or being unhappy about a recent setback. Get outside and take a stroll. Make an enjoyable activity. Always remember to replace negative self-talk with uplifting phrases.

11. Effectively manage yourself

Learning to be your boss through successful self-management is essential to understanding how to be the most excellent version of yourself. Effective time management relieves stress, guides you toward your ideal self, and frees you from the demands of others. Check-in on your progress regularly, quarterly, and yearly to keep accountable and in control of your resources. You’ll be a better resource for your team if you become your own best boss.

12. Remain positive

You’ll run against bottlenecks and challenges as you discover how to be the most refined version of yourself. Instead of seeing hurdles as setbacks, consider their possibilities. Rather than being discouraged, nurture “positive” emotions such as curiosity, passion, and flexibility. If you stay positive, you’ll come up with inventive ideas that you wouldn’t have thought of if you were stuck in self-defeating thoughts.

13. Return the favour

One of our Six Human Needs is contribution, and it’s an essential part of what makes us happy. We experience a stronger sense of gratitude and wealth in our own lives when we give back to our communities. Whether through time, talents, knowledge, or money, volunteering is one way to be the best version of yourself, regardless of who you are.
